Allanah Colley, Bridget McLay, and Ana Lenard published their report Changing the Culture of the Legal Profession in December 2019. The launch of this report was marked by Purea Nei – an international women’s day event held at Bankside Chambers. AWLA wrote an open letter to chambers and partners regarding the lack of women listed on the New Zealand Bar Association website. As of 2020, three women were listed.
AWLA hosted a virtual Pacific Panel Discussion about the importance of Pacific representation in law.
AWLA submitted on the proposed changes by the NZLS to increase clarity about how firms deal with harassment and bullying issues in the Lawyers and Conveyancers Act Conduct and Client Care Rules.
Hon. Justice Tracey Walker spoke at the annual President’s function.
Seminars were hosted regarding flexible working – lessons from lockdown, prevention of bullying and harassment, and practice management in the times of COVID-19.
Siouxsie Wiles MNZM presented at the Dame Silvia Cartwright lecture.
An election year panel event was held with party representatives from Green, Labour, Act and National.
