Thank you to all of our members who attended our Parental Leave panel last Thursday, hosted by Russell McVeagh.
The panel was an informative session for women at all stages of their parental leave journeys. Rachael Judge, Senior Associate at Simpson Grierson, spoke on the statutory framework and shared some tips and tricks for people planning to take parental leave. Natalya King, Legal Counsel at TVNZ, shared the impetus behind the TVNZ’s new parental leave policy together with key considerations and, innovative components of the policy. Emma Mclean, Found of Works for Everyone, explained five ways in which women can break the “Motherhood Penalty” in both a home and work context. She also gave strategies on how businesses can address the issue.
We also shared our observations from AWLA’s parental leave survey which went out to 34 firms in June 2022. We are pleased to share a copy of the highly anticipated results here. It was great to see that some firms either directly changed their policies as a result of this survey, or noted that their policies were under review. We are hopeful that this survey may act as a catalyst for change to both generate increased transparency and discussions around parental leave.
In the next couple of weeks, we will also be publishing our free parental leave resource to provide information and practical advice to those looking at taking parental leave, who are on parental leave, or who are returning to the workplace. Feedback on this resource is encouraged.
