Perimenopause typically coincides with the busiest time in a woman’s career and when they are at the top of their game. Statistics show that a significant number of women end up leaving their jobs at this time due to the impact of perimenopause and lack of support in the corporate environment. This outcome is a huge loss personally, to the corporate world, and to the economy. This is an important issue for women no matter their age given every younger woman is an older woman in the making.
AWLA feels strongly that breaking stigma around the (peri)menopause and barriers to information-sharing is a way to start reducing the negative effects of menopause on women and on workplaces who might lose valuable employees. By starting an open conversation we hope to encourage employers to take steps to ensure their workplace is menopause friendly and encourage women to feel free to share their experiences and ask for understanding or assistance from their employers when required.
AWLA is starting the conversation by running the Understanding Menopause Workshop facilitated by Robyn Fausett RGN. Robyn is a registered nurse specialist, published author and sought after speaker. She brings her wealth of knowledge, humour, experience and expertise to deliver essential & empowering information to staff and management. By the end of the workshop, you will know the key points of what (peri)menopause is, including the wide variety of its effects, and some practical tips and tricks to ensure the workspace is menopause friendly all with the goal to ensure your team are supported working through this transient life stage.
AWLA strongly encourages both employees and employers, women and men to attend this event. It is not just a women’s issue and is important for everyone to understand what this stage means for women and workplaces.
