A panel discussion on progress under the Gender Equality Charter
In April 2018, NZLS published the Gender Equality Charter – a voluntary charter aimed at improving the retention and advancement of women in the legal profession.
Three years on, the Charter has 152 signatories across law firms, in-house teams, and barristers’ chambers. But how much progress have we made?
In this panel event, we invite representatives of seven law firms, those that responded to our 2020 survey question on measures they are taking under the Charter, to discuss their work on the commitment to “actively work to increase gender equality and inclusion in senior roles“.
We will be exploring challenges these firms have faced, what’s worked for them and what hasn’t, and how their progress is tracking. We hope that this sharing of experiences will be a constructive and valuable opportunity for all firms to think about what might work for them in promoting the advancement of women.
This event builds on our survey across 32 Auckland law firms on the number of women promoted to partnership, including salaried partnership, in the last five years to December 2020. This information is now live on our website and can be viewed here.
